Your seat changes the lens more than the spec sheet does.

From a spectator area, the useful focal range depends on how far the car is, the corner you can see, and whether you want a tight car shot or the circuit around it.

What position changes

There is no single “Sepang focal length.”

A wider view can make a better photograph when you want the corner, crowd or circuit in the frame. A longer lens matters when the car is simply too small from where you are sitting.

70–200 classGood place to start when the car is reasonably close or you want more circuit context.
100–400 classMore useful when distance changes and you keep running out of framing reach.
APS-C + 70–350A compact way to get a longer field of view without replacing a capable body.

If the car is too small

Keep a capable body and spend on reach first.

If autofocus is already following the car reliably, replacing the body will not make a short lens longer. Start with a compatible telephoto and only revisit the body when autofocus, buffer or low-light performance is the real limitation.

Quick starting point

Before blaming the camera, check the shutter.

These are starting points, not rules. Car speed, direction and the look you want all change the answer.

FreezeTry around 1/1000–1/2000 sec with continuous autofocus.
PanStart around 1/250 and work slower only when your tracking is consistent.
Car still soft?Check whether the problem is motion blur or focus before deciding the body is too slow.
